“I couldn’t just silently watch from bed as an epidemic disproportionately affecting women grows alongside a new government of wealthy, white men bent on scapegoating them.” – Kaeley Pruitt-Hamm
Local Woman Records is proud to introduce you to Seattle/DC based artist Kaeley Pruitt-Hamm. Kaeley wrote “Believe Her” for survivors who were doubted by people in power – by doctors, insurance companies and by presidents.
In her own words, “I was one of the millions of women who have been dismissed by doctors as ‘overreacting’, while a painful and debilitating infection was left untreated to spread throughout my body.” While finally getting treatment for this disease that left her bedridden, Kaeley recorded an EP of protest songs from her pillows.
Unable to join marchers out in the streets, Kaeley wanted to contribute to the increasingly heated discussions happening in our country around gender equity, race, and healthcare access, and she wanted to contribute in harmony.
