Austin Shaw’s Debut Album ‘Felt’ Out Today

A few years ago, Austin Shaw took a summer vacation from his demanding work in high finance in NYC to visit his sister in California’s Bay Area.  He surfed, he hiked and he rediscovered his desire to create music.  So, he called up his boss in Manhattan and gave notice, packed up settling in Santa Cruz. CA. Today the songwriter and singer’s journey is coming full circle with the release of his debut full-length album Felt.

Although he was raised primarily in Dayton, Ohio, Shaw lived briefly as a child in California. He remembers the long cross-country drive mostly through music. His mom, who loved the 1970s-era songwriters, played James Taylor, Paul Simon and Neil Diamond on their road trips.

Felt exposes Shaw as an artist deeply influenced by that singer/songwriter period. His songwriting dives deep into the human spirit, expressing the pain, joy and complications of life. His songs are stories glowing with warm, intricate layers. They feature catchy guitar hooks and soul-baring lyrics that offer up Shaw’s perspectives on love, loss, longing and self-discovery. His knack for writing and performing with honest emotion won him the spot as Good Times Magazine’s Best Local Musician in 2016.

On Felt, Shaw was joined in the studio by Robert L. Smith (Producer/Defy Recordings,) and the album features the talents of guitarist Larry Saltzman (Paul Simon,) drummer Joe Bonadio (Sting,) bassist Malcolm Gold and vocalist Clara Lofaro.
