Single Review ~ Lucy Levinsohn ~ “Dear God”

When I received my copy of the “Dear God” by Lucy Levinsohn, I could not wait to download it and start listening. The sheer excitement stems from being a fan of her previous band, EVOLOVE.  Her voice and energy are so infectious that you are singing along after the first listen.

“Dear God” will be independently released on January 26, 2018 on all digital music outlets. The track was produced by Augustus “Gus” Cryns and the forthcoming video was directed by Leah Rose Photography.

Now, let’s talk about the music…….

“Dear God” starts off with a very sparse piano intro and segues into a very personal and thought provoking letter to the Man upstairs. You can feel the despair in her voice as she cries “ Please tell me that you’re working on a plan” and “There’s so much suffering in the world, and I just don’t understand.” As the song progresses, Lucy begins to look within inside herself and realize that instead of just wondering if things are going to change, that she wants to be the change and not “stand around with her hands in her pockets.”  Stripped down to musical bare bones, “Dear God” really hits home and right in the heart.  The song left me with a sense of hope and determination to make the world a better place and be a better person. Music has two important purposes. One is to entertain and distract. The other, in my opinion, is to educate and inspire. Lucy has managed to accomplish both here.

I look forward to hearing more from Lucy in the very near future.
