Album Review ~ Paralandra ~ ‘Ascension’

From Springfield, MO comes the powerful hard rock four piece band Paralandra. The band’s new EP Ascension will be released on June 1 via Legend Recordings.

Wasting no time, the band puts you on notice. They are here to rock your face off and make no apologies for it.

Ascension opens up with the first single, “Back To Life.” This is a great, high energy rock track with a larger than life chorus. Vocalist/Guitarist, Cassandra Carson sings and plays with extreme power and conviction, as does the rest of Paralandra.

“Killer Queen” is my personal favorite on the album. Cassandra channels the swagger and attitude of Lzzy Hale (Halestorm) into an epic three minutes and forty seconds of pure rock insanity.

“Never Without Me” has an undeniable groove thanks to the rhythm section of Nick Gray (drums) and Sawyer Rikard (bass). With the addition of Paul Daniel’s guitar work, the track has an overall classic hard rock feel.

Previously, I had mentioned that “Killer Queen” was my favorite track on the album. It still is, however the centerpiece of this album is “Need To Feed.” The feel of this song is dark and moody. The band takes everything to next level to close out the album. Cassandra’s vocals soar, especially in the chorus when she belts out “Am I here to supply your need to feed?”

It has been said that great things come in small packages, and Ascension proves that old saying right. The EP is overflowing with passion, precision, and more importantly, heart.  Do yourself a favor and purchase a copy of Ascension.  Rating: 9.5 out of 10 stars.
